Thinking reasonably, what is the best in PC vs console gaming?  Let us for the fist time deviate from the traditional way of this arguments.  The first factor to consider is the exclusives.  Let it be God of war, Uncharted, Gears of war Halo, StarCraft etc.  We can argue all day that the exclusive games makes the given platforms the best.

Truth be told, there is no such thing as best exclusive and every platform has its own exclusives.  What is more ironic is that, that windows PC has more exclusives than any other consoles combined.  Also, the PC platform has very good backward compatibility and we have to thank Direct X for that.  And the point to be noted is that, it does not make the PC best either even in the PC vs console gaming categories.

The second factor we will like to consider is the drawing room experience.  Consoles are made considering the TV sets in the mind. The interface is easy understand, the controllers are more or less ergonomic. The controllers are also wireless these days, and they can be turned on with the controller.  While on the other hand, the users can just make a cheap desktop and install a powerful graphics card and play heavy games just like that.  Or they can even buy 4K monitors with good sound setup etc and make the experience more immersive than anything out there.  It is all good for the PC side but there is one counter argument for the consoles here.  That is the minimalism argument.

That is the minimalism argument:

The internet connections has made the game deliverance more PC like than ever and also, the game works as well as it can across the board.  Lets face it, not everyone cares about what processer is creating the objects or what graphics card is making the frames. That brings us directly to the performance and it is the main concern in the PC vs console gaming argument, and that being said, a similarly prices PC does not really perform as good as an Xbox one X if not worse.

Both sides can argue about the massive list of cheap games that was released previous year but two big blow to the console is the backward compatibility of the PC and the lack of system wide paid subscription for multiplayer.

Know about Xbox one backward compatibility right now.

Just speaking reasonably, we can see that the PC can achieve more goals and miss fewer at a lower price or achieve even more goals at a higher price.  And the truth is that, it is not the specs that carries the chariot to the finish line first, but it is the experience that is a combination of both the performance and the games that makes a side win.

If you want a very immersive experience and good online then PC is the choice for you.  But if playing singing and dancing games in front of a big TV with friends is what you enjoy then obviously the console is the way to go.

PC vs console gaming:

PC vs Xbox one vs PS4 pro:

It was 8 years between the Xbox 360 and Xbox one.  There is always a painfully long delay before a console update.  To somewhat address this problem the console makers have been releasing incremental updates to the existing platforms such as the Xbox one S for Xbox one from Microsoft.  The Console has improved performance, functionality and is smaller and more compact.  But can it still fight in the pc vs console gaming fight?

With past generations, the refreshes to the platform has been in the form of increasing the connectivity.  That included the Wifi, storage spcace, ports etc. The Xbox one S has a slightly skew approach for the consoles redesign.  We get a 2Tb hard disc, which is noticeably twice the hard disc capacity of the previous Xbox one.  We also get a 40% smaller form factor, in built power supply, and a much elegant design.  And with the controller, we get an improved grip, range and wireless connectivity.  The console itself has an IR blaster which lets the users connect multiple devices like TV remote etc.

One of the big selling points here are the 4K support, it was not available in the original Xbox one.  But there is a caveat, the 4K does not mean that you can render the games in 4K but it means that the console will upscale the 1080p to 4K to play nice videos in the 4K TV.  The TV or the monitor just has to be HDMI 2.0 compliant for this to work.  It can also stream videos in 4K form popular streaming services like Netflix. It can also play videos form the 4K blu-ray discs which can be a very nice feature for home theater.

The Xbox one S also support the HDR, which will give you more realistic colors and nicer contrast if you have a TV that supports it.  These are the common point for the pc vs console gaming stand point of Xbox one s.

The common point made by the PC gamers against console is that even a mid range GPU will give better visuals than a console.  Testing with a mid range and higher end GPU we can tell that, the PC easily outperforms the Xbox one S.  But we have to notice that the PC with mid-range GPU costed about 500 dollars and the one with higher-end GPU costed about 1200 dollars while the Xbox one S costs only 250 dollars.

Xbox one X being the most powerful console, Microsoft has decided to stick with the Xbox branding instead of going with another name.  The Xbox one X and Xbox one S has the same ports, same internals with Xbox one X delivering better pixels.  The controllers are also the same.  Noticeably the Console has become more like PC with different models available at the same time, with different graphics capabilities etc.

Talking about games, Forza Motorsport 7 was unsurprisingly performed the best in the Xbox one X.  It was better than Xbox one S and the 500 dollars PC.

Lets move on to the Shadow of war.  It is another native 4K title.  It runs at 30fps at the Xbox one X.  And nearly identical frame rate with PS4 pro with a reduced texture due to lower memory.  But both consoles outperformed the PC.  The PC could keep up with the consoles only at the 1080p settings.

With Assassins Creed Origins, the Xbox one X showed the best visuals with PS4 pro following it with almost identical visuals unlike the difference with Shadow of war.  The PC again was struggling to keep up.  Ubisoft announced that it has optimized the Xbox one X version of the game.

Microsoft claimed that the Xbox one X is capable of accessing higher quality assets files faster.  Turning down the resolution we saw that,  the PC, Xbox one X and the PS4 pro performed very identical.  On the Xbox credits the enhanced customizability has improved the visual experience in the Shadow of war.  That being said, if the player is going to play in a 1080p display for a considerable long time, upgrading to Xbox one X instead of a 500 dollars PC is not recommendable.

Another thing that players ask is what to do when they already have a PC with 4K monitor and 500 dollars being too much.  The answer for that is upgrading the PC is the best option.

The Xbox one X delivers both the highest frame rates and the resolution for the price.

It is most certainly true that it is not a replacement for GTX 1080 Ti, Vega 64

Conclusion:

So is the consoles better than PC? Depends on what you are looking for.  If you are a hard core gamer and all you are about is frame rate, native resolution and very expensive hardware then obviously  PC is the winner.  If you are into gaming and entertainment which is what most users are all about, then console is the winner.  That is our final verdict on pc vs console gaming for now.  Check in regularly for updates and more news at My Pc Updates.
